about

One of my oldest songs, I wrote Hope in 1979 in an isolated trailer by a lonely lake in the piney woods of East Texas, soon after my college girlfriend broke up with me. I first recorded it c. 1984 with the Bradley Trio at Joe Danger Productions in Houston, for my 1st album, Dancin’ & Dreamin’. In 1987 it was released as the B side of my 45 rpm single, Back to Grand Rapids.

lyrics

[C]When I think of [G]hours wasted / [C]searching [C7]for that [F]perfect face
it [C]makes me want to [Am]give up looking [D]/ but I can't do [G]that [G7]
[C]evening air is [G]smelling sweeter [C]/ all I [C7]have to [F]do is meet her

And I [F]hope this [G]loneliness / is [Em]just a passing [Am]phase
'cause [F]Lord I just can't [G]stand it any[C]more [C7]
I hope I [F]find you to[G]morrow / but I [Em]give up on to[Am]day
when [F]I knock will you [G]open up your [C]door

[C]lucky ones I [G]see them kissing / [C]getting [C7]just what [F]I am missing

[C]thinking back to [G]girls I've [G7]known [C]/ times when [C7]I was [F]not alone
[C]makes me wish I [Am]had someone to [D]talk to in the [G]dark

'cause [F]Lord I just can't [G]stand it any[C]more [C7]
